Glass Break Sensors

Detection devices are placed either directly on a glass surface or in near proximity.  They use a sensing technology in which acoustic sensors detect sound, shock, or vibration frequencies associated with breaking glass.  Often they are used in conjunction with door/window contacts as an added level of protection.  Consider that an intruder might gain access by breaking the window and, in effect, bypass the effectiveness of the door/window contact should it be the only level of electronic protection.

Glass break sensor types:

  • Glass or ceiling mount

  • Hard-wired

  • Wireless

Like other types of sensors, these glass break sensors have range limitations where the manufacturer specification may show a maximum detection distance of 25'.  Spacing is important to provide optimum detection coverage.  Along with a wide range of other specifications, a glass break may offer more than one sensitivity level within the same device.
